Efficient 3d finite element modeling of cyclic elasto-plastic rolling contact

چکیده

Railway rails accumulate large plastic deformations due to cyclic rolling contact loading. The alter the rail geometry, affect material behavior, and cause crack formation growth. complex interactions between these phenomena require high fidelity simulations be understood. 3d finite element are accurate, but their computational cost limits possible number of simulated cycles. We propose a simulation in which wheel remain throughout simulation. It uses periodic boundary conditions, shadow elements, model reductions. Compared previous work, it is 25 times faster. method available as an open-source plugin Abaqus, enabling other researchers study loading coupled with deformations.

A Finite Element Study of Elasto-plastic Hemispherical Contact

This work presents a finite element study of elasto-plastic hemispherical contact. The results are normalized such that they are valid for macro contacts (e.g., rolling element bearings) and micro contacts (e.g., asperity contact). The material is modeled as elastic-perfectly plastic. The numerical results are compared to other existing models of spherical contact, including the fully plastic c...

Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Evaluation of Flexible Pavements Based on Shakedown Concept

In this paper, three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element analysis was performed on flexible pavements under vertical repeated traffic loads to evaluate their shakedown behavior. Six different pavements with different structural number (SN) were modeled and subjected to a wide range of cyclic vehicle loads. Shakedown limits were obtained considering both failure and serviceability restrain...

Efficient 3D Finite Element Modeling of a Muscle-Activated Tongue

We describe our investigation of a fast 3D finite element method (FEM) for biomedical simulation of a muscle-activated human tongue. Our method uses a linear stiffness-warping scheme to achieve simulation speeds which are within a factor 10 of real-time rates at the expense of a small loss in accuracy. Muscle activations are produced by an arrangement of forces acting along selected edges of th...

Research on Elasto-plastic Contact with Friction Multipole BEM and Rolling Process

It is a highly nonlinear problem of 3-D elastoplastic contact with friction. To obtain the key information about the real size, displacement and traction in contact zone, the elements in contact and plastic zone should be subdivided. However, the increase of degrees of freedom is limited by the problem-solving scale when traditional BEM is used, for a larger memory size is required and the solu...
